Hi,

I notice from your log that there's more than 1 Antivirus installed. Symantec/Norton and Avira.
Never install more than one Antivirus and Firewall! Rather than giving you extra protection, it will decrease the reliability of it seriously!
The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time.
Also because more than one Antivirus and Firewall installed are not compatible with eachother, it can cause system performance problems and a serious system slowdown.

So you have to make a decision here and keep the Antivirus you prefer and uninstall the other one.
Then reboot after uninstalling.

Then, Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Hi,

Uninstall Search Settings 1.2 via software > add & remove programs.
Reboot afterwards. Then rescan with HijackThis and post the log in your next reply (only the normal HijackThislog, not the uninstall list log)

Details: A Tracking Cookie is any cookie that is installed on a computer to save and access various activities of the user. It may be used by web sites to identify returning visitors who have registered for special services; to monitor, measure, and scrutinize visitors' navigation and use of web site features. It can also count the number of visitors to web sites and allow web surfers to use virtual "shopping carts". All this information is saved for future target advertising and marketing campaigns by various internet Advertising and Marketing companies. Though these cookies do not pose immediate threats but they can be misused to capture confidential information like user names and passwords.

Trojan.StartPage.fz
Details: A Trojan is a program that disguises itself to be a useful program, but actually performs some illicit activity when it is run. Trojans are installed under forged or deceptive masquerades such as a joke program, a cute animation or an obscene image or may be even sent bundled with software. This program permits the unauthorized collection, distortion, or obliteration of data and renders the system more vulnerable as it may track the user's password information, cause damage to user’s data or damage other programs installed on the infected system. It can also pose security and privacy threats to one’s system, needless to mention the damage it can cause to the important data and installed programs.

Hi,

Navigate to and delete the following folder if still present:

C:\Program Files\Search Settings

Also,

With what did you scan? Because I see false positives in the detections as well..

This one is a correct detection:

Infected Cookies
C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner.YOUR-1A4D29F243.000\Cookies\compaq_owner@atwola[2].txt

However, it's only a tracking cookie.

Please don't worry about tracking cookies. You'll always get them and they will always return. This just depends what sites you visit.
Everyone has them. They are even present on the MSN startpage, Yahoo startpage...
You may also want to read next:
http://www.spywarein...ticles/cookies/
http://www.mvps.org/...002/cookies.htm

If you want to manage your cookies you can use next programs:

For Internet explorer: CookieWall

For Firefox: CookieSafe

Keep in mind that you're not supposed to block every cookie, because some cookies are required.
Most people don't use an additional cookie manager, because it may be annoying in some cases to manually filter all cookies in the beginning, so they clean their cookies once in a while via the "clean cookies" option in their browser settings.

This one is a false positive:

Infected registry keys/values detected
hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\internet explorer\main\search bar\http://www.microsoft.com/isa
pi/redir.dll?prd=ie&ar=iesearch

It shows the default http://www.microsoft...amp;ar=iesearch as a Trojan.StartPage.fz?? This is wrong, because the url is totally legitimate.

Then it says this:

Trojan.StartPage.ig

Infected registry keys/values detected
hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\internet explorer\main\search bar

That's the exact same key as it detected before, without any values this time (there's only 1 of them in the registry), but now it gives another detection for it? It detects that main key as Trojan.StartPage.ig? That doesn't make any sense. I have that key as well and it's a default one.

If it was Uniblue Spyeraser you scanned with (as I see this is installed in your log), then it doesn't suprise me at all it is detecting these. I would never recommend this scanner anyway since I know it detects a lot of false positives.

Hey, Yep I know the cookies one is nothing but it was the other ones I was worried about. I also ran anti-malware scan and Trojan scan and nothing showed up,well I guess it is a false positive hmm shall I contact spyeraser support about this issue? Thank you again so much for your patience and kindness to address this for me :)

Hi,

shall I contact spyeraser support about this issue?

Yes, that's a good idea, so they can fix it. :)
They are currenty deleting the default Microsoft searchbar setting in the registry which refers to Windows Live Search.

And you're most welcome. :)
