Hi,

Last night, my computer became infected with AntiVirus 2008 XP. I was able to get rid of it using Alwarebytes' Anti-Malware. However, whever I open Internet Explorer a window appears that says: Windows host process (Rundll32). It asks to allow or don't allow, and of course I am not allowing it to download on my computer.

Here's what I have done so far to try to get rid of anything bad on my computer:
Ran a comprehensive scan of Norton 360
Ran Malwarebyrtes' Anti-Malware- seemed to get rid of the AntiVirus 2008 XP
Removeit Pro v4- nothing was detected and it didn't help find anything
Ad-Aware
HiJack This

I am posting my HiJack This log below. If you can help me get rid of the Rundll32 and any other malware/spyware/adware, I'd be grateful!

Hello again

1. Real-time protection can interfere with Scanners

Disable Windows Defender until the computer is clean
  • Open Windows Defender
  • Select Tools and then General Settings
  • Under Real Time Protection Options uncheck Turn on real-time protection
  • Select Save
Don't forget to re-enable it, when your computer is clean.

2. Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Once the scan has completed look for the following item/s and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it (if present):

O2 - BHO: mxlivemedia browser optimizer - {730a6681-e38f-c320-2fab-8bf7e82475ef} - C:\Windows\system32\ynxaohhenasslioba.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [{99d5668b-f55c-8ce2-4727-19f2341b2e23}] C:\Windows\System32\Rundll32.exe "C:\Windows\system32\ynxaohhenasslioba.dll" DllStart

Next close all open windows apart from hjt and click fix checked and then exit the program.

3. OTMoveIt2 -

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    [kill explorer]
    C:\Windows\system32\ynxaohhenasslioba.dll
    purity
    EmptyTemp
    [start explorer]

  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be Moved" window (under the light blue bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

4. Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.
So in your next post please supply:
  • OTMoveit2 text
  • The 2 DSS logs

Hello again

Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1. Backing Up Your Registry
  • Go Here and download ERUNT
(ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) is a free program that allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed.)
  • Install ERUNT by following the prompts
(use the default install settings but say no to the portion that asks you to add ERUNT to the start-up folder, if you like you can enable this option later)
  • Start ERUNT
(either by double clicking on the desktop icon or choosing to start the program at the end of the setup)
  • Choose a location for the backup
(the default location is C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT which is acceptable).
  • Make sure that at least the first two check boxes are ticked
  • Press OK
  • Press YES to create the folder.
2.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    [kill explorer]
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\\{99d5668b-f55c-8ce2-4727-19f2341b2e23}
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{730a6681-e38f-c320-2fab-8bf7e82475ef}
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{99d5668b-f55c-8ce2-4727-19f2341b2e23}
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{730a6681-e38f-c320-2fab-8bf7e82475ef}
    C:\Windows\system32\ynxaohhenasslioba.dll
    C:\Windows\system32\lgqdoecxpp.exe
    purity

3. Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure the following is checked.
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply.

"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /daft

In the program that opens:
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • Select everything it is displaying there
  • Click the Fix button.
  • Then rescan with DAFT again - it should say now that "All associations are OK"
  • Close DAFT if you receive that message. This means that it is fixed now.
So to re-cap, in your next reply please provide:
  • OTMoveit2 results
  • Kaspersky online scan report
  • A fresh Hijackthis log performed after these steps and let Me know how your PC is running now.

Hey!

The Kaspersky online scan report was blank, so I didn't save the log.

Please don't think I'm stupid, but I couldn't find the Start>run to do step 5!!!

Also, now when I open IE, a security box opens that has the name:...es\Java\jre1.6.0-07\bin\ssvagent.exe with the publisher as Sun Mocrosystems, Inc.

I am so afraid to open things now since I got a virus, so could you tell me if that is safe or not.

Again, thanks for all your help!

Hello again

Also, now when I open IE, a security box opens that has the name:...es\Java\jre1.6.0-07\bin\ssvagent.exe with the publisher as Sun Mocrosystems, Inc.

This is safe to run, refer to these instruction on how to install the latest version of Java, remembering to un-install older versions.

1. Upgrading Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Select your Platform and check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement.".
  • Click on Continue.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation (jre-6u7-windows-i586-p.exe) and save it to your desktop. Do NOT use the Sun Download Manager..
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.(Vista users, right click on the jre-6u7-windows-i586-p.exe and select "Run as an Administrator.")

2. CLICK THIS TO LINK TO BE SURE YOU CAN VIEW HIDDEN FILES

Please go here:
The Spy Killer Forum
  • Click on "New Topic"
  • Put your name, e-mail address, and this as the title: "ynxaohhenasslioba.dll"
  • Put a link to this Geeks to Go topic in the description box.
  • Then next to the file box, at the bottom, click the browse button, then navigate to this file:

    • C:\Windows\system32\ynxaohhenasslioba.dll

  • Click Open.
  • Click Post.
Thank you!

3. Please visit this web page for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix

http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix

This includes installing the Windows XP Recovery Console in case you have not installed it yet.

For more information on the Windows XP Recovery Console read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058.

Once you install the Recovery Console, when you reboot your computer, you'll see the option for the Recovery Console now as well. Don't select Recovery Console as we don't need it. By default, your main OS is selected there. The screen stays for 2 seconds and then it proceeds to load Windows. That is normal.

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

Regards

Hello again

Ignore the last instructions.

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
For more information regarding this download, please visit this webpage: http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix
  • Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**
