We recently had a power hit - my system was on an APC 700 UPS and was running fine. The power appeared to be out for a prolonged period so I shut the system down. After about 3 hours when I tried to reboot - the motherboard would not post. After troubleshooting I found that I could get the system to post when the HP1100 printer was unplugged from the parallel port. The system will now only boot into Safe mode. If I try to do a normal boot it hangs at the windows screen. Any suggestions?

First, can you disable the printer port in BIOS?

I find the printer controller to be one of the most fragile componants following a power surge...that and the modem....

If not, try safemode, go to device manager, and delete the printer port/interface.
