Hello Everyone,

I noticed that windows updates have not installed on my computer for a couple of months. I went to try and search for updates and I'm getting this message "Windows could not search for new updates. Error found: code 80070424".

I googled the error and also checked windows support website and no help could be found.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium and I am wondering if SP1 is part of the updates I can't get? At any rate, I know it's critical to get updates so any help would be greatly appreciated!! :)

First try this.

1. Click Start. Choose Run.
2. In the Run box, type: regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll
3. Click OK.

Then see if you can get updates.

Don't have RUN in your start menu? Click on the taskbar, click properties, go to the start menu tab, at Start menu, click customize, 3/4 the way down, put a check mark in the "run command" ,click OKs till your back out of the taskbar.

Also, to see if you have SP1 right click on computer from the start menu, and click properties. Near the top in "Windows Edition" it should say you have SP1 if you do.

SRX660,

Thank you for helping me! I checked properties and I have Windows Vista Home Premium. Do I need SP1 and if so, how can I get it?

Second, I did the following:
1. Click Start. Choose Run.
2. In the Run box, type: regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll
3. Click OK.

And got this error message:

"The module "wuaueng.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x8007005."

Any ideas?

Well, that did not help your update problem then. You might try going to the Microsoft genuine software website and run the validate windows to see what it says.

http://www.microsoft...?displaylang=en

Look for the validate now area to the right.
____________

The windows Genuine Advantage tool is here, but i think its the same as the above.

______________

You can also read the PC-[bleep] website on validation problems.

Also read this.

Vista SP 1 can be downloaded here.

Thanks for the info. I validated my copy of Windows Vista and it is genuine. I checked the websites but they are no help. I have sent an email to Microsoft Support Team and hopefully they can provide assistance.

Please let me know if you have any other ideas. Thanks!

Well I fixed the same months old problem just now. Well those who tried everything but nothing seems to work. Try going to Start Menu--> All Programs---> Accessories---> and then right click on Command Prompt and choose "Run as Administrator".
Then type;

regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll

check updates now and it should work fine.
