Cannot Access Internet When Connected to VPN

I got a new laptop and installed my work VPN connection on it. Now I can connect to VPN but once I"m connected I cannot access any webpages. I get cannot not display page.
Is there something I'm not doing or what. On my old laptop I just installed the VPN connection and everything worked fine. Granted my old laptop was XP and the new one is Vista. Would that make a difference? I would appreciate any sort of help. Thanks in advance.
