Hi all,

I have a queston which i am hoping someone can help me with.

If i save a picture and use it as my desktop wall paper, the quality of the photot is poor. But when you view pictures normally, they are perfect. Its just when i set them as wallpaper.

Any ideas on how to fix this??

Depends on the size of the original picture and the resolution of the system.

If you set a picture that's, say, 400x300 in dimensions as wallpaper, the first thing Windows will do is stretch it to fill the resolution. Since most people these days have at least 1024x768 resolution, any picture gets blown up to a point where all you see is the individual pixels that collectively make up that picture.

Show us a picture you're wanting as wallpaper and then tell us what your resolution is (you can find this by right-clicking on an empty area of the the Desktop -> Properties -> Settings and the screen resolution slider.

Hi Neil,

Thanks for your help.

I have enclosed a picture that when i set as wallpaper, the qulaity reduces.

1280 x 1024 is what my resolution is set on.

Its funny becuase when i turn my computer on for the first time, when the desktop loads the picture is perfect. Then MSN opens a windows and i sign in. Once i minimise the pictures quality is low.

Thanks for your help

Peter.

Nothing wrong with this picture being blown up to 1280x1024.
What's your colour depth set to (same place as the resolution setting on the right hand side)

32-bit is fine.

Hmm, can't really explain why it does what it does. Is it only with Messenger or does it happen with all programs that you minimize?
