It all started with NAV warning about vundo presence in the system. I tried
1)to remove the trojan with NAV ;) not possible because the file was in use.
2)symantec removal tool :) It found no trace of the trojan.
3)manual removal as described in your forum :) after modifying the register I discovered the malicious entries were back again.
Finally I uninstalled NAV and installed Avast antivirus which found the trojan and killed it. ;)
When I re-set System restore I found out some problems. :)

A) If I try to launch Start/Programs/Accessories/System Utilities/System restore nothing happens. I can see the process rstrui.exe in the Task manager but that's all.
B) In Internet Explorer, if I press ctrl-F the usual FIND windows open, but it's not possible either to launch or cancel the search. I can only close the windows clicking the cross in the right-upper corner.
C) I cannoct connect to Windows Update service anymore. The browser gets stuck on a page saying "Searching for last version of windows update" (or something similar, I'm translating from italian.) :)
D) Windows Media player is not working anymore: Application Internal Error. I tried to upgrade from 9 to 10 but it gave just the same error at launch. :tazz:

I stop here but I fear other problems could reveal in the future.

I really hope someone can help me to fix this mess. :)

Here I paste my last HijackThis log. Thanx in advance.

Hi Keith, I tried "sfc /scannow", a small window opened for several minutes asking to wait till sfc checked for file integrity. When the progress bar came to the end the windows closed without other messages. Nothing was repaired. I had a doubt so I removed my XP CD from the drive and started again the process. It went just the same, and it didn't even ask for the CD.
It didn't worked at all in safe mode, not that I was hoping too much about this last option...

Do you have any other suggestion?

I want to thank you anyway.

You might want to try checking you have not got any invalid registry entries which could be causing issues, run tune up trial disc cleaner, registry cleaner then click optimize to run reg defrag, which takes a few minutes and needs reboot
