A friend of mine was trying to fix his computer, and some of the system files were deleted, so we could not even start up windows. (windows XP). We took the hardrive from his computer, put it as a slave on my computer, and formatted it. we put it back into his computer, and tried installing windows, and now the computer is not detecting the hard drive at all. It will detect the cd-rom, and we put the windows XP disk in, but when it goes to install, it does not detect the hard drive. can anybody help?!

check the jumper on the drive - it should be set to master.

make sure the IDE ribbon cable is installed correctly. for most devices, the red stripe on the ribbon cable will be adjacent to the red wire on the power cable.
