I have encountered what seems to be a popular problem around here. First, I am using XP and have SP3 installed.
Here's my issue:

Periodically, Dr. Watson shows up to tell me Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and must close. It usually happens when I try to open an Explorer folder, but not every time; it seems to happen after I haven't used it in a while. Then, after closing it out and ending drwtsn32.exe in the applications tab in task manager, I can continue on and even use windows explorer normally. For a while, that is, until it does it again. The odd thing is, every so often, a different program will have the doc show up and close it out. IE and Windows explorer are the main victims, though.

I've read through many threads on this topic, both here and elsewhere, but I'm not sure if the info I found applies to me. There seems to be many different causes for the issue. I have also read and completed the initial steps your forum has advised readers to do; minus the spywar/antivirus and reg cleaner downloads as I already use Microtrend and Regcure. Microtrend and Regcure are up-to-date and I have all the latest Windows updates. As of right now, my anti-virus doesn't find anything (both in normal and in safe mode). However, a few days ago I found a few Trojans which were finally removed after a scan in safe mode. It seems the issue arose after the removal of those viruses. Although, I think SP3 was downloaded around that same time as well so maybe that had something to do with it. I understand what you all do so I greatly appreciate your time and any assistance you can give.

Lastly, I apologize for the lengthiness of this, but it's about to get a bit longer. I pulled down an HJT log. Hopefully this will help. Please keep in mind that very little has changed on my PC in months and this problem just showed up recently. Thanks again all for your time.
