I am not sure what the issue is with this particular OS. The default browser for Hardy (8.04) is Firefox 3. I have not had any issues with other operating systems running FF3. It appears to be a issue with fonts. The weird thing is that it works fine with Ubuntu Gutsy (7.10). Later today if I get a chance I will install Opera for Hardy and see if the issue is the same.

I am posting a screenshot of both Gutsy and Hardy on two different machines. The SS were fairly large so I am linking them from ImageShack.

I'm not sure, But that looks like OS trouble.
I'm not that familiar with Ubuntu, but isn't there like a folder where all the fonts are located?
If so, then you could copy all the fonts from one OS to the other, right?

Just some ideas,
Regards,
Olrik

Well, I just confirmed that it is a Hardy FF problem. I downloaded Opera and installed it and everything looks perfect. I wouldn't think that they would change the default font packages from Gutsy to Hardy but Hardy was a somewhat unstable release.

Edit:

On a side note, Opera is pretty awesome (first time trying).

Update:

With the upgrade to Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) there is no longer an issue with fonts.
