Just recently I was installing an antivirus program and i obtained another virus. Apparently the antivirus program was a fake and i didn't realize that at the time, so by the time it was downloaded it was too late. Spybot SD detected that a certain virus was trying to change the UserInit in my registry, but i blocked it and hit remember this decision. Now, i get over 100 popups in less than 10 minutes from Spybot about how its blocking this action. I want to know how i'm able to track this virus and delete it so that the popups stop appearing and the UserInit remains safe. Can anyone offer any suggestions? I'm currently running on XP.

I would like to add that i believe that my UserInit has not been messed with yet, as i have not allowed anything to reach it (or so i believe).

Hello farran and welcome to Geeks to Go! My is Dave and I'll be helping you to clean your computer.

The first thing I need you to do is go to this link and follow the instructions there: You must read this before posting a HijackThis log.

These are some preliminary steps designed to deal with the most common problems. If you follow the procedures and your problems disappear, then great - let us know of your success and you can be on your way. But, if you're still having trouble when you get to Step 5 - Posting a HijackThis (HJT) log, follow the steps for downloading and creating a log with HJT. Then post the logs from HijackThis and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware in a reply to this thread so I can take a look at it and get an idea of what's going on with your computer.
