Need help with linksys usb adapter

Hi my name is Rick. I am new to modem, routers and wireless dsl. I have verizon dsl and use a verizon modem model. gt704wg. I am trying to make my pc wireless with the use of a linksys usb adapter. My internet works fine when is wired, but when i try to connect via usb it will not. the usb detects my modems signal but will not connet for internet. I have a laptop which has no problem picking up the wireless signal. Any advise will be apprecialted.
