My computer is missing "<windows root>\system32\hal.dll" I don't know how to put that back in because Windows xp wont load up. I've tried the re-installing windows xp with the recovery disc but i get errors like "Setup did not find any hard disc drives installed in your computer". I've even tried installing windows pro but same problem. It was working fine yesterday til this morning that I turned it on. It just wouldn't load up xp... I hope there is still a chance I can get things working again.. I had all my music on there. :'(... besides the fact that my parents are going to kill me. Ha ha. :)

ps. please help me

The thing that scares me the most is that my name is also Kevin and my problem is SLIGHTLY the same as yours.

Anyways, Where did you get your RC from?

The recover disc? lol. I'm not sure if you mean that by RC... but I actually didn't have the windows xp disc I had gone to a website to download it for free. I forgot the website. But it works on my other computer just fine.

When you start up your pc, Press F12, Choose choice number 4,
when it tells you to press any key to boot cd, Hit space bar...

Then it should take you to the Welcome to Setup screen, Press, R and tell me what it says...

I'm going to ask in the Tech Academy lounge if someone can take a look at this :)
I tried to get this to work with KevinFierce on the IRC chat.

Just checking something. (A little thing I missed)

but I actually didn't have the windows xp disc I had gone to a website to download it for free.

Does that mean your XP version is not legit? You do know that it's illegal to download windows XP CDs?

Regards,
Olrik
