help with monitor to tv switch

ok i just bought a 26" lcd tv and replaced my lcd monitor. everything seems to be working just fine except when i tried to pull up a game. i can hear the sound and see the game on the taskbar but when i open the window to play the game the screen just goes black. any helpful info is MUCH appreciated!
