I'm trying to fix my grandparents' PC, because it has been apparently plagued with viruses. When I got on it, Antivirus 2009 kept popping up scanning and showing ~32 infected objects, but it said that AV 2009 was just trial version and to purchase the real program. When I tried to get on and download AVG AV 8.0, it wouldn't let me go to any of those sites. The internet is connected; I can get onto google, but can't go to many other sites.

So, I downloaded AVG on my computer and got it onto the g-parents'. I successfully uninstalled their out of date AV and installed AVG. The problem is, I can't connect to the AVG server to update the definitions and when I try to scan, an error box would pop up and not allow it after about 10 seconds. Currently, I am running a scan in safe mode, but I don't really know what else to do. Any suggestions are extremely welcome. Thank you!

hello and welcome to geeks to go...

Please follow all of the steps in this section of the Malware Forum. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post a HiJackThis Log in the Malware Forum. If you are unable to run and/or post a HJT log, then post that in your initial post in the topic you create in that forum. Should you post in that forum please do not respond to your own topic. Our Malware Staff look for topics to help out in that have no responses. The Malware Forum is very busy with many more requests for help than we have volunteer helpers, so please be patient. If you have not had a response to a topic after 3 days then please go to the Waiting Room and read the pinned topic for instructions.
