My computer has a problem of Internet Explorer refusing to open. When I start the program, all I get is the hour glass shown for a few seconds then nothing else happens...no windows open or anything.

I checked with the Malware experts in the other forums and they gave me a clean bill of health. http://www.geekstogo...en-t216418.html

Any help on this very frustrating problem would be most appreciated.

I have tried both the 7.0 and 8.0 beta versions with the same result, opening from both the start menu and shortcuts.

Never try any beta program on your main machine!
If you're back to IE7, try to uninstall it through Add\Remove. It'll revert to IE6. See, if the problem persists.

This problem occurred before I installed the beta so the beta was just a last ditch effort to fix it.

When I attempted to uninstall 7.0 it did not appear on the add/remove programs list even though it was just installed yesterday. Figuring it wasn't installed, I attempted to download 6.0 but was denied saying a more current version (7.0) was in use. I have searched my hard drive for the uninstall file but it is nowhere to be found.

Have you heard of anything like this before? It is almost like it is running but something is causing it to be hidden.

If you have SP3, you have to uninstall it first, in order to uninstall IE7.

When I try to uninstall SP3 it goes through about half of the process then a warning box pops up and says file cannot be found (windows service pack 3). I know it is installed because it is on my add/remove programs list.

Go Start>Run ("Start Search" in Vista), type in:
sfc /scannow
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).
Have Windows CD/DVD handy.
If System File Checker (sfc) will find any errors, it'll ask you for the CD/DVD.
If sfc won't find any errors in Windows XP, it'll simply quit, without any message.

I only have XP loaded on the machine which may be a problem. Will it work with just a straight XP machine?

Many problems with Internet Explorer can be fixed by uninstalling the Toolbars that many downloaded programs seem to think everybody want. I saw one computer the other day that had pretty much every toolbar going and it was a surprise that they were able to read any web pages with six lines of toolbar buttons and stuff halfway down the screen.

The only toolbar I have installed is Google search. Right now I can't open Internet Explorer to even attempt to remove it.

Google Toolbar will NOT uninstall either, no matter which method I try.
