Hi, I have an XXX toolbar on my explorer, without any indication of where its from, that won't go away.. when I right-click on it, all the options have been greyed.

I've run adaware, spybot and CWshredder, but none of them have gotten rid of it

Here's my hijackthis log:

Hi vvn11284, welcome to G2G.

I apologize for the delay getting to your log, the helpers here are very busy. If you are still having malware troubles, I will be glad to help. Due to the length of time passed, I need to see a new HijackThis Log.

Please post a new HJT log in this thread.

Hi vvn11284. I have a couple questions for you. Do you use Kazaa?

Also, these entries are from ATRIVOTECHNOLOGIES in San Franciso and NetcatHosting in the Ukraine. Is NetcatHosting your ISP? Do you know anything about either company?

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{245E7757-09C7-4387-A09A-9FABABA4A96B}: NameServer = 69.50.184.86,195.225.176.110

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\VxD\MSTCP: NameServer = 69.50.184.86,195.225.176.110

Don't fix them with HJT, I just need to know if you recognize the company names.

Please download AppInit_DLLs Fix.
  • Unzip the contents of appinitfix.zip to a convenient location.
  • Double-click on appinitfix.reg.
  • When it asks you to merge the information to the registry click "Yes".
Rescan with HijackThis and place a checkmark next to the following entries:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {00D6A7E7-4A97-456f-848A-3B75BF7554D7} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: ActiveX Control - {365808D8-56E3-414F-8554-1BA9CF319062} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mskty.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: IE SP2 AddOn - {DA9415F8-88CF-4D37-8726-797058C2877B} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\spcuv.dll
O3 - Toolbar: SearchToolbar - {08BEC6AA-49FC-4379-3587-4B21E286C19E} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\ie2cltr.dll
O16 - DPF: {1D6711C8-7154-40BB-8380-3DEA45B69CBF} -
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: 7d1m2e8suz7.dll

Did you, a System Administrator, or a program such as Spybot Search and Destroy set this restriction? If not, fix it too.

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

P2P Networking is a totally useless Kazaa add-on, and it's been reported to be responsible for serious system slowdowns. I suggest fixing it. Here's the item to fix in HijackThis, and you will need to remove the main program as well:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P Networking] C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe /AUTOSTART

Now, close all windows including your browser and then click "Fix Checked" in Hijackthis.

Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

KeenValue
PowerSearch toolbar for IE
P2P Networking
(if you chose to fix it with HJT)

Please delete these folders using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\ (again, if you chose to fix it)

Please delete these files using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\WINDOWS\System32\mskty.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\spcuv.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ie2cltr.dll
7d1m2e8suz7.dll
(you will need to do a search for this file)

Next, clean out all the temporary files and cookies on your system. Go to Start > Run and enter: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Check these three boxes and then press ok to remove: Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, Recycle Bin.

Reboot normally and post a fresh HJT log for review.

hey insipid! sorry for the delay in replying, for some reason firefox couldn't find geekstogo.com for awhile

I removed P2P networking but didn't have the Powersearch toolbar for IE or Keenvalue in the control panel

C:\WINDOWS\System32\mskty.dll - this file wasn't present

C:\WINDOWS\System32\spcuv.dll - when I tried to delete this, it said Access Denied

C:\WINDOWS\System32\ie2cltr.dll - ditto

7d1m2e8suz7.dll - couldn't find it

However, the renegade toolbar has disappeared ! :tazz:

Here's the new hijackthis log:

Oh and yes I used to use kazaa, but not that much anymore

Plus I have no idea who atrivotechnologies or netcathosting are.. sorry, I don't know exactly what ISP is >< but I'm the most internet-savvy in the household so if I'm don't know what it is, it's unlikely someone else is using it consciously. What are they?

vvn11284, that looks a little better, but you've picked up a new Trojan in the meantime. ISP is Internet Service Provider, I need to know who yours is.

If you still have Kazaa, this is not technically malware by itself, but it installs malware in order to run properly and it opens the door for every other nasty program you can think of. I strongly recommend that you remove it in Add/Remove Programs in the control panel. Read this article for alternatives that will provide some of the same function without the garbage: http://www.spywarein...m/articles/p2p/]http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p

Download the free 30-day trial of Trojan Hunter 4.0 and perform a full system scan. Let it fix any infections it finds.

Please first save these directions to the desktop as a text file, because you will need to copy and paste part of them later, once we are in Safe Mode.

1) Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

2) Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

3) Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

4) Select "Delete on Reboot".

5) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\ie2cltr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\spcuv.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ie2cltr.dll

6) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

7) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

After reboot, rescan with HijackThis and place a checkmark next to the following entries, if still present:

O2 - BHO: SearchToolbar - {08BEC6AA-49FC-4379-3587-4B21E286C19E} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\ie2cltr.dll
O2 - BHO: ActiveX Control - {50EF0DC4-6991-4F53-8BE2-E49B5E2DDC2E} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mskty.dll (file missing)
04 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [mptsgsvc.exe] mptsgsvc.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [LDM] \Program\

Now, close all windows including your browser and then click "Fix Checked" in Hijackthis.

Reboot and post a new HJT log.
