I am upgrading from ME to XP and have encountered several errors. I received Msgsrv user.exe not available; Runn.dll user.exe not available; winoldap user.exe not available. This occurred in the middle of upgrading to XP. Should I return to yesterdays restore point and try again?

Hi Rochelle, welcome to Geeks to Go! <_<

It's a lot more work backing up your data, and reinstalling your programs, but I'd strongly recommend doing a "clean install" of XP rather than the update. The updates don't always work to well, and you want to get all traces of ME off your system.
