Wellll, my XP is quite the bind. I logged on to see no Start Menu or Desktop! I've had this problem before and back then I just ran explorer.exe from the Task Manager. This time though, I press the Ctr+Alt+Del combo and that little menu pops up with the lock computer and log off and things, but the Task Manager button is greyed out! GASP! I've replaced the Task Manger from the XP disk just for the heck of it ( ) but the button is still greyed out. Safe mode is just a black screen. I think that's it. Am I missing other details? I hope you guys can help me! Thanks! By the way, Happy Thanksgiving!

It may be some hardware problem as well, but since you have Windows CD, you can try Windows repair, first: http://www.michaelst...pairinstall.htm

Ok, I tried to repair install. It went fine. The computer restarted when it was done copying files, and it continued the setup. At this time, my computer shut down. I have no clue why. Now when I turn on my computer, I get error messages that don't allow me to use my computer. This is what it says:
"A write operation was attempted after a volume was dismounted" (or similar
message)
automatic reboot
"Setup is being restarted"
"Insufficient resources exist to complete the API" ("lsass.exe System Error"
in the title bar)
automatic reboot
"Setup is being restarted"
"Not enough memory exists to complete the specified operation." ("lsass.exe
System Error" in the title bar)
automatic reboot
"Setup is being restarted"
"Not enough paging file or virtual memory quota is available to complete the
specified operation."
automatic reboot
"Setup is being restarted"
etc...
I tried to repair install it again and it brings up this screen:
Setup has already attempted to upgrade the following Windows installation.
C:\Windows "Microsoft Windows XP Professional"
Setup will try to complete the upgrade again.
To retry upgrading to Windows XP, press ENTER.
To continue installing a fresh copy of Windows XP without repairing, press
ESC.
To quit Setup, press F3.
I picked the first option (ENTER) and when it was all done I got the endless loop of reboots. Can anyone help me on this?
