missing operating system on a sony compaq presario

I'm debating on buying this laptop because I'm not sure if the hard drive was wiped clean or if it's been taken out of the computer, but when turned on alls it reads is missing operating system. can you answer this question?It's a sony compaq presario.

Well, if it is missing the OS then yes, most likely it has been wiped and reformatted. You will need to reinstall the OS from scratch.

BTW...There is no such thing as a Sony Compaq Presario - Sony is a completely different company from Compaq.

So if I wanted yo I could run a windows Xp disc on it? I just dont wanna buy it if theres no hard drive in it you know.
