Hey guys i recently bought a dell xps 1330 for 1k which depleted my bank account. Anyway at the time i thought i didn't really want to game anymore but I miss it way too much. So im currently looking to:

1. Sell my dell desktop Buy a console (no idea which)

2. Upgrade my desktop Dell Dimension C521 which is pretty much collecting dust
specs
Amd athalon dual core x2 5000+ 2.6gbz dual core i think
1/2 gb ram (forgot which)
160 gb hd
no special gpu

3. Sell my desktop and buy a new gaming rig.

I need to be cost conscious so which option would be best for me?

PS if i do buy a new comp it will be only for gaming since my xps 1330 satisfies everything computer related for me.

EDIT: I do want to play online vs other people. I'm not much of a solo mission type of guy. But since xbox and ps3 allow you to play online like pc's i don't see that as a problem. SHould it be?

Here are the pros and cons:
Gaming PC = $40 per game [usually] , but you have to drop a couple hundred annually to maintain the PC.

Console = $60 per game, but you are set for the next 4 or 5 years until next-gen.

Here is my take on it. Please tell me if any assumptions are inaccurate:

Next 4 years

Console: $400 (including accessories)
average 6 games a year = 24 games = $1440 @ 60 per game
One subscription to MMO or something $15 = $720
New Console 4 years later to stay updated $400

Total = $2960

PC

$500 new PC
$200 every year upgrades = $800
Some sort of subscription $15 = $720
Average 6 games a year =24 games = $1200 @ $50 a game.
No need for new PC b/c kept up with updates over the years.

Total = $3220

OK so here are my preliminary thoughts.
I don't have an HDTV so i guess I will have to buy one. But i don't know if I can compare to that because right now i have a dell 24" widescreen LCD
how do i make a comparison like with that. Or will I end up needing to buy a HDTV either way to connect to my comp or my new console.

i think you said get a pc. from ur calculations its only about $300 more.

you will get better customization, better graphics. and be able to upgrade if you want. the monitor you have now will be fine.
