Front panel mic jack quit working

My front panel mic jack all of a sudden quit working. I checked connections to mobo, tried multiple mics, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. All I'm getting is noise from it. Rear jack works fine. This poses an issue in that my headset has 2 short cables, and if I plug the whole headset in the back, the headphones are recognized as speakers and I can barely get any sound through them. I'm using Microsoft HD Audio Device. Not sure if my port is just fried or what.
