Hi dandelion,

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Make double sure to disable Spybot's Tea Timer for now, as it can interfere with the fixing of problems.

Open Spybot and and make sure you are in Advanced mode (check it in the 'Mode' menu). Go to the Tools section and click resident and then uncheck the box for Tea Timer.

Then, reboot

Now we do some work on your log:

1. First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

2. Run Hijackthis with all windows closed, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button:

3. Reboot Your System in Safe Mode[/color]

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

4. Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and DELETE them (if they are present):

c:\wp.exe
C:\Program Files\Security iGuard<<<Folder
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wldr.dll
c:\wp.bmp
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msole32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\popuper.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\intmonp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\winldra.exe

5. Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode.

6. Once you have rebooted download the following reg file to your desktop by right clicking on the link, and selecting save as.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/reg/smitfraud.reg

7. Once it has downloaded, double-click on the smitfraud.reg file on your desktop and when it asks if you would like to merge the data, click on the Yes button.

8. Reboot your computer and you should now be able to change your desktop settings back to how you would like it. If your desktop still looks strange, go into your display properties and click on the Themes tab. Change the theme to Windows XP and you will now be using the default Windows XP settings. Then change them as you see fit.

Hi Trevuren

Thank you for your help - I did what you said and my blue screen has disappeared but internet explorer still shows 'about blank' as the home page so I can't get at anything on the internet. To download the reg file I sent myself an email to create the hyperlink and that seemed to work.

here's the latest log - is it possible to fix the internet home page problem, please?

thank you

Dndelion
