Hi I'm Shane
I have been infected with some sort of adware. I ran McAfee VirusScan and it found it but was unable to delete it was hidden as a protected operating system file in my C:\WINDOWS folder I then tried to delete it but it said Access Denied File is Write Protected or in Use. I then ran my comp in safe mode and I deleted the folder but not before noticing that the file was not in the folder. I figured it might get in anyways, but when I restarted I was still getting Pop-ups from Firefox. I also was able to change the folder with the virus in it's name to VIRUS. I'm stumped and I've used Hijack This before so I figured it was the best route its just that I'm not very good at using it so I came here. I would be very grateful for any help I could receive in resolving this matter. Thank you and here is my Hijack This Log.

I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

Hi thanks for the quick response.
I ran ComboFix here is the log and a New HiJack This log. I also deleted Viewpoint Media Player. Another thing, is it ok that McAfee thinks ComboFix has spyware in it?

Hi,

is it ok that McAfee thinks ComboFix has spyware in it?

Don't worry about that. It's some commandline tools that Combofix uses in the tool that may be flagged by some scanners as unwanted.

* Open notepad - don't use any other texteditor than notepad or the script will fail.
Copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into notepad:

Hi,

This looks OK again.

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:

• Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11.
• Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11".
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• For Platform, select "Windows"
• For language, select your language
• Read the License agreement and then Check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement".
• Click Continue
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
• Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
  • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
  • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
  • Java™ 6 Update 5
• Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
• Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u11-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

* Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Hi,

* Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Then, please reinstall an Antivirus again. Reboot after installing.
Post a new HijackThislog in your next reply after installing the antivirus.
