Well, everything looks promising there. Please check that line in HiJackThis again, reboot and post a fresh HiJackThis log.

How are things working now?

I still have a few problems, the Ewido keeps popping up with to files named "aurareco.exe" and "hnlggwwtnno.exe". I hit CLEAN every time, but apparantly to no avail.

When i log on a pop up tells me that a modul cant be startet due to a reading mistake, the path it mentions is "c:\program files\webspecials\webspec.dll".

And here is my fresh HJT log after i checked that line again and rebooted:

It seems a while since i had aurora pop ups, however im am still getting the above mentioned pop ups from Ewido, and as far as my novice eyes can see i havent gotten rid of the nail.exe file either.

I still have the problems with the webspecials files as well.

Other than that it seems a bit more stable (or do you spell that stabile) :tazz:

Ewido and Trojan Hunter are said to be able to remove the nail.exe infection. We tried Ewido, so lets try Trojan Hunter now.

Please download and run a Free Trial of Trojan Hunter
If any infected files are found, delete them.

After you install it, please update it and then run it. After that, reboot into safe mode and run it again. Then post a fresh HiJackThis log.

Hi ScHwErV.

I ran the Trojan Hunter i both normal mode and safe mode, it found the nail.exe file and i hit clean in both cases.

BTW it also found my mIRC.exe, and removed that :-), but no problems there i will just reinstall that program when all this hopefully is over.

I rebooted an ran HJT in normal mode and here is the result:

Lets go after this thing manually.

Click here to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit. Extract it from the zip file somewhere you will remember. We will need it later.

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O2 - BHO: BolgerObj Class - {302A3240-4805-4a34-97D7-1645A0B08410} - C:\WINDOWS\Bolger.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {ED103D9F-3070-4580-AB1E-E5C179C1AE41} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [fyz] C:\WINDOWS\fyz.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WebSpecials] rundll32 "C:\Program Files\WebSpecials\webspec.dll",run
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [firlnin] C:\Documents and Settings\Jens Asbjørn\Lokale indstillinger\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\GPQB4HIR\delf061225[1].exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WebSpecials] rundll32 "C:\Program Files\WebSpecials\webspec.dll",run
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.media-motor.net
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.popuppers.com

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

Web Specials

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

Find the following file using Windows Explorer.

C:\WINDOWS\fyz.exe

Right click on the file and go into Properties. Uncheck all the boxes in the properties window. Then click OK and DELETE the file. Be sure you empty your trash bin.

Find and open KillBox. Place the following lines (complete paths) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each. Keep track of any files it tells you either could not be found or could not be deleted, as you'll need those later:

C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Bolger.dll
C:\WINDOWS\fyz.exe
C:\Program Files\WebSpecials
C:\Documents and Settings\Jens Asbjørn\Lokale indstillinger\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\GPQB4HIR\delf061225[1].exe

For the files that it either couldn't find or couldn't delete, in the killbox again this time, put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each file into the file name box, then click the red button with the X after each. It will ask you if you want to reboot each time you click it, answer NO until after you've pasted the last file name, at which time you should answer Yes.

After that and still in safe mode, run a full Ewido scan and a Trojan Hunter scan.

After that, Reboot and post a fresh HiJackThis log and let me know how things are running.

Hi again.

I did what you wrote me to do, and i have following the comments.

- Everything looks normal in the add/remove programs in the controlpanel.
- I couldnt find c:\windows\fyz.exe, so i could not perform the mentioned actions.
- I ran a full ewido in safe mode, it found and cleaned 4 vira including nail.exe
- Trojan hunter found nothing

After my reboot to normal mode Ewido pops up twice with the same file which is "hnlggwwtnno.exe", i still hit clean every time. Ewido doesnt pop up with the "aurareco.exe" file any longer.

The above (in this thread) mentioned problems with the webspecials.dll files are gone. There is no longer dialog boxes refering to these files, that problem seems to be fixed as well.

Finally here is my fresh HJT log:

Try fixing this line in HiJackThis again. Then reboot.

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

After that post a fresh HiJackThis log.

Hi ScHwErV.

Unfortunately the Ewido again finds the "aurareco.exe" files again, and it still finds the "hnlggwwtnno.exe" files as well.

I tried checking the mentioned nail.exe line again, but i think to no avail.

However here is my HJT log:

We still have some work to do.

Please run an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

Lets try Killbox again. Place the following lines (complete paths) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each. Keep track of any files it tells you either could not be found or could not be deleted, as you'll need those later:

C:\Documents and Settings\Jens Asbjørn\Lokale indstillinger\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\GPQB4HIR\delf061225[1].exe
C:\Windows\Nail.exe

For the files that it either couldn't find or couldn't delete, in the killbox again this time, put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each file into the file name box, then click the red button with the X after each. It will ask you if you want to reboot each time you click it, answer NO until after you've pasted the last file name, at which time you should answer Yes.

Then re-scan with HiJackThis and check the following Entries.

Then click Fix Checked and reboot into safe mode.

In safe mode, please run Ewido and TrojanHunter again.

After all that, post a fresh HiJackThis log.

Hi again.

I ran the kaspersky, it didnt create a log but it found 2 vira. One was already found by Search & Destroy since it was placed i a quarantine map, the other file kasperskys found was placed i system32\active scan and was called imscan.dll.

I let Kaspersky remove both of them.

Furthermore i followed the rest of your instructions, and here is the fresh HJT log:

Lets try this again.

Please open Notepad, and copy/paste the code in the box below into a new text file. Save it as Fix.reg and save it on your Desktop. Make sure that under File Types in the save dialog box it says "All".

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"firlnin"=-

Locate Fix.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. It will ask you for confirmation and then tell you that it was done.

Then lets make sure some of these files we have been trying to delete are actually gone.

Reconfigure Windows XP to show hidden files:
Click Start. Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab.

Under the Hidden files and folders heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.

Try to locate these files in Windows Explorer.

C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Jens Asbjørn\Lokale indstillinger\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\GPQB4HIR\delf061225[1].exe
C:\windows\fyz.exe

If any of those files are found, try to delete them. If you cannot delete them, reboot into safe mode and try again.

Let me know how you come out.
