Well i have had Verizon DSL for a while now and have had problems here and there but nothing major. But now my internet likes to cut out for no apparent reason. But the strange thing is the internet only cuts out when it gets dark. When daylight savings is an hour behind it cuts out a 9:30PM and that's when it gets dark. When its and hour ahead and it gets dark at 5:30 PM it cuts out then. We have called Verizon SO MANY times but still no help. They came in once but when they left it got worse. I am hoping some on on here has more brains then Verizon's tech support. I have a Westell 6100 modem and i am currently not connected through a wireless router. When it goes off there are 3 light on. The power, Ethernet, dsl but no internet.

Things i have tried:
Replaced the cords
Unplugged all the cords and blew out all the dust
Put a fan over it to keep it cool
Call in Verizon Tech support
Tried a different power pack

I really don't get though why it is fine during the day but once its dark out it cuts off.

Here is a log sheet of when my internet cut out EXACT TIMES.

I have Verizon too and my connectivity always wavers or I lose all connectivity during a storm or even if it overly cloudy/stormy looking. I've called Verizon numerous times and all they can tell me is that its a poor line connection (which is affected by the weather) and there is nothing they can do.

I, too, had the Westell 6100 but that got fried during a recent storm and I had to go buy a new one :) I bought some no-name verizon branded modem from Best Buy (it was the only one they had) and I cant say I've had much of a problem with it, I still lose connectivity during a storm but its not as bad as it was when I had the Westell modem. So its possible the modem has something to do with it as well as the line condition.

Does this happen every night, when the weather is clear?

Okay well, Verizon Customer Service just well Sucks. Your best bet would be to find a local reporting agency in your area, See I don't have the luxury of DSL here so I cannot compare but 2 weeks ago our phone did, we called verizon that night from a cell a town over (no cell service @ my home) and they said "we will fix monday morning" never showed up, Called them 15 times on monday between 6-8 no one cared. Called this company, I will have to look it up, but any ways it takes your complaint / opinion and then lodges it with the company within 2-4 hrs. After calling them up on my cell phone verizon was out at the house at 7am the next morning with the lines all fixed. The co was Public Complaint Commision or something (local to hebron ny) anyways. There tech support sucks. My advice is if they are being a$$holes about it, Report them to every company & government agency you can. I did and now I phone service again.

Another thing is if they guarantee you a certain speed or always on type deal then you can get them for breach of contract.

Ya this happens every single night even when the weather is clear. I am really getting annoyed about it and i want to buy a new modem but if that doesn't help then i just wasted a ton of money (well i no routers are like 60 bucks so i guess modems are to how much was yours?) My friends dad said that our optic sensor on our telephone pole might be dirty. And i just called him and he told me to put a voltage meter on it to see if its getting less volts when it goes out. If that doesn't help i guess ill go with the new modem. Thanks for the help.

here is how many times its gone off tonight

My modem was about $60.. I think but we had a rain storm today and I had no connectivity loss! :)

So, Im wondering if it really was the modem. How long have you had yours?

well we figured it out. The light pole out at the street is the problem. The light likes to go off because its over heating. Because of this the connection goes off and on with the light. Simple fix. well glad we figured it out the night before i was going to waste 60 bucks on a new modem YAY! :)
