Ok, I have ran hijack this and Kill box both. I have also ran ad-aware se, norton, and microsofts antivirus.

I have removed all four of these:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\SMSSU.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Tmntsrv32.EXE
C:\Windows\explorer32dbg.exe
C:\Windows\iexplore_dbg.exe

Here is my newest log, it would be great if someone out there would be able to take a look at this and tell me what I need to do next!

C:\WINDOWS\System32\winupdtl.exe

And (still in safe mode) use the DiskCleanup Tool to empty all your Temp folders.

Boot back to normal and install SP1

o.k i did everything you said but when i got to deleting c:\x.cab and others none of them were there except for C:\programfiles\stbrg so i deleted that.

Now while in safe mode i tried to run disk cleanup and it gets to 4 bars and just sits there like it's not doing anything. Im not sure if it's doing anything or if it is just taking a very long time.

I am using a laptop to post and im keeping my other comp off-line the last two nights i have shut down the monitor. I leave it overnight and i came home from work and the past two days anti-spyware had ran and founf 3 problems each time.

I did not run it and i know no-one else did so whats going on is it just part of the virus trying to trick you? I havent read what it said i just closed it not even thinking.

as soon as this finishes clean up (if it does) and i boot back to normal and insatll sp1 i will post a new log.

Is my log o.k now and is there a way to restore my desktop? The icons are there now but the wall paper is gone and that blue screen is there with the message.

Download this file:
http://www.bleepingc...g/smitfraud.reg

Should the link above display the text instead of downloading the file, then copy & paste the text into notepad and save the file as smitfraud.reg

Doubleclick smitfraud.reg and confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

Then reboot and let me know if you have your desktop back
