winxp blue screen stop message

Bought used lap top Dell Latitude D610 running xp pro ver.2002 sp3 I uninstalled a couple of programs and then installed AVG 8.0 free addition. Everything seemed good but then out of the no where I have started getting the "blue screen win stop message"

***ntfs.sys-Address BA6218D6 base at BA610000, Date Stamp 4825be5

run CHKDSK/f to check for hard drive corruption

Now I do not have a clue about that stuff. Is it time for me to take it to a pro or I would like to learn more about computers.
