My computer won't shut down and when I try to open a file while it's sitting there I get the message in the topic title. I cleaned out a bunch of programs that I don't use any more, and that may have something to do with it. I probably deleted MS instant message in that spree.

I have also started running Registry Cure software. It always finds a bunch of stuff to fix, but doesn't correct this problem.

I suggest you go to the Malware Forum and run all the steps located in the START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post a HiJackThis Log in THAT forum. If you are unable to run and/or post a HJT log, then post that in your initial post in the topic you create in that forum.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).

Hey-
I followed your advice and downloaded some anti-malware, and it solved my problem. My machine goes right to sleep and wakes right up now. Thanks a lot.

I'm glad, the problem seems to be solved, but I'd still post a HiJackThis Log in THAT forum, just to make sure.
