I'm sorry, but I'm unable to find the avenger log. I did a search on the computer on all drives for avenger.txt and it was not found. I did run it and removed the zip file from the desktop, but have no idea what happened to the log it created.

Here is the MalwareBytes log:

Please re-open Hijackthis and click on "Do a system scan only"
Then place a check mark next to these entries below:

O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\Run: [waruhevozo] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\lolepiju.dll",s (User 'LOCAL SERVICE')
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\system32\yofadiji.dll

Now click on Fix Checked and then close Hijackthis.
==============
Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

First, we need to backup your registry:
Please go to Start > Run
Paste in the following line:regedit /e c:\registrybackup.reg
Click OK.
It won't appear to be doing anything, that's normal.
Your mouse pointer may turn to an hour glass for a minute.
Please continue when it no longer has the hour glass.

Please open up Notepad and copy all of the items in the code box below.
Change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as fixthis.reg on your Desktop.
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\control\lsa]
"notification packages"=hex(7):73,63,65,63,6c,69,00,00
Now double-click fixthis.reg.
A window will come up asking if you want to let it merge with the registry.
Click yes.

Things are looking better. Everytime I reboot, however, it says that Windows has recovered from a serious error. This morning I had no internet connectivity and had to reboot. That error appeared after the reboot .... two identical windows in fact ... one after the other. My internet connection came back after the reboot.

I want to thank you for the help you've given me. It's great that you people provide this help for those who would rather not take the computer to the Geek Squad and pay $200 to have it fixed. I'll consider sending a donation using the link on your site.

After we're done here, what do you recommend I use to protect my computer for the future? Is there a free product or it it necessary to buy something? Is Windows Defender good enough?

Here is the log you requested.

You are welcome has the computer shutdown on it's own?

Please empty your inbox as the kaspersky scanner shows infections there and also empty your trash box as well for the same reason.

  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

I don't know if the computer has shut down on it's own or not. This morning it had shut down. If the Kasperly scanner didn't shut it down, then it shut down on it's own.

Can you tell me how to empty my inbox? I don't have any email clients installed at the moment other than probably outlook express because it came with Windows. What inbox are you referring to?

Also, what trash box are you talking about and how do I empty it?

Hi there were 2 files that were detected as malware by KAspersky:
C:\Mail\In.mbx Suspicious: Trojan-Spy.HTML.Fraud.gen 1
C:\Mail\Trash.mbx Suspicious: Trojan-Spy.HTML.Fraud.gen 1

If you do not use a mail client then you can delete those 2 files.
=====================
Your minidumps show a problems with these 2 programs mainly the one that keeps re-appearing is this file:
C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static\ccc.exe

Please navigate to that location and right click on the the ccc.exe file and rename it to .old
If you are unable to rename it open the task manager by hitting the Ctrl alt del keys on your keyboard.
Then from within the task manager please locate the ccc.exe file and right click on it and choose terminate this process.

Then try to rename it again.
=============================
One of the minidumps points to a program called Folder Lockbox if you have that program installed please uninstall it and see if this happens again.
===========
For the clock:
Okay go to Start >Control Panel >Date ,Time and regional settings.
Click on Regional and language options.
Next to the section that says your regional language (mine is English) click on customise.
Click on the Time tab at the top.
The next to time format make sure that it looks like this >h:mm:ss tt if it doesn't then change it to that.
Then click apply then ok.
Then apply then ok again.
==========================
Monitor the computer for a bit and see after doing the above if the restarts stop happening?

I performed all these actions.

Today, when I tried to use the computer the internet connection was not available. This has been happening to this computer off and on now for a year or more. At times the internet connectivity goes away. I try cycling the cable modem and the router and waiting for them to connect and sync; however, the internet doesn't come back. The only thing that seems to help is a reboot. After I rebooted today, I got internet connectivity back. Could this have anything to do with malware or is it more likely a process that is failing for some reason?

Can you recommend a product to keep this computer safe from malware or aren't you supposed to recommend any products? Perhaps you can tell me of one that people tell you is good LOL? My Spyware Guard definitions are dated 1/22/04 and when I try to update them it says they are up to date. I'm going to try to remove the program and re-install it.

It is a failing issue but not malware related.
Could be that your network card is going out or another issue.

IF you want further help with this issue you can start a thread in this forum:
http://www.geekstogo...2003-NT-f5.html

Can you recommend a product to keep this computer safe from malware or aren't you supposed to recommend any products?

When we are done I will give you some free programs you can use.
I personally recommend Kasperky antivirus but it is a paid for version only.
Free anti virus I recommend AVG free 8.0 or avira.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 and save it to your desktop.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11...allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Select your Platform: "Windows".
  • Select your Language: "Multi-language".
  • Read the License Agreement, and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • Click Continue and the page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.

I have Symantec Endpoint protection installed as an employee of Penn State University. I'm not sure why it didn't stop what happened to my computer this time, but it didn't appear to be working correctly because I couldn't get it back into protection mode after our changes. Perhaps it wasn't working right and allowed all this. Regardless, I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it's now protecting and is up to date. I also have Spyware Guard installed and running. Windows Defender used to be here, but during a recent uninstall that I interrupted by accident, it must have gotten hosed because I can no longer get it to update definitions. I tried uninstalling, rebooting and re-installing, but I have the same problem. In your opinion, am I protected well enough with Symantec and Spyware Guard?

Thanks again for all your help. My computer seems to be running great again. It's great that you folks do this to help us out!
