;) Don't ask me how it happened, but somehow I have some pretty nasty spyware on my computer now. I was able to get rid of most of it (namely Aurora, and something that wouldn't let me access the Internet), but now I need to nix popupsearches.com and some rather annoying and nasty ads. Popupsearches (begin2search.com) always shows up whenever I do a google search and the ads come up when I start Internet Explorer. I don't know what they're called, but some of the more common ones are 69.42.87.207 and 69.42.87.221 Please help me ;) , this adware is hiding better than this little ninja guy :tazz: and I've tried everything else.

Hi SparkTiger

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Lets see if this will finds any hidden Trojan’s http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
This setup contains the free as well as the plus-version of the ewido security suite. After the installation, a free 14-day test version containing all the extensions of the plus-version will be activated. At the end of the test phase, the extensions of the plus version are deactivated and the freeware version can be used unlimited times. The purchased license code of the plus version can be entered at any time.
when first run the program will auto-update, Run ewido now

Please download, install and run this disk cleanup utility called Cleanup version 4.0!
http://downloads.ste...p/CleanUp40.exe
It will get rid of any malware which may be hiding in your temp folders ( a common hiding place). You will also regain a massive amount of disk space. Here is a tutorial which describes its usage:
http://www.bleepingc...tutorial93.html
Check the custom settings to your liking under options, but be sure to delete temporary files and temporary internet files for all user profiles. Also, cleanout the prefetch folder and the recycle bin.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsjCC.dll<--Delete this file
PowerReg Scheduler.exe<--Delete this file
Exit Explorer.Reboot as normal.

Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
Please post the logs From Panda virus scan and HJT.logWe will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

Hi SparkTiger

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
a.) Copy the contents in red only below to Notepad.
b.) Save the file as RemoveTrustedZone.reg
c.) Change the Save as Type to All Files.
d.) Save this file to the desktop.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]

e.) Double-click on RemoveTrustedZone.reg.
f.) When it asks you to merge the information to the registry click Yes.[/b]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Media Access] C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccK.exe
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.bestbuy.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.bestbuy.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.carefirst.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.gdldlaw.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.media-motor.net
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.nwa.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.popuppers.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: www.regattacentral.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: www.staples.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.tshipley.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.woodwardcamp.com

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

If you were unable to find any of the files then please follow these additional instructions:
Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.
Run killbox and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.
C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccK.exe
C:\Program Files\Media Access

Let the system reboot.

Download the Hoster from here Press "Restore Original Hosts. and press "OK". Exit Program.

Please download, install and run this disk cleanup utility called Cleanup version 4.0!: http://downloads.ste...p/CleanUp40.exe
It will get rid of any malware which may be hiding in your temp folders ( a common hiding place). You will also regain a massive amount of disk space. Here is a tutorial which describes its usage: http://www.bleepingc...tutorial93.html
Check the custom settings to your liking under options, but be sure to delete temporary files and temporary internet files for all user profiles. Also, cleanout the prefetch folder and the recycle bin. When the scan has finnished click the close button
When prompted the system will log off to let it clean out the remaining files. when the log screen shows log back on and continue the fix.

Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
Please post the logs From Panda virus scan and HJT.log we will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

Hi SparkTiger

I did respond to your last post on June 10 my reply was June 12
I closed this topic on June 21.

Dear thatman,
You didn't respond to my last message, so I'm sending you another one just in case. Could you please reopen my topic, #22384, popupsearches.com on google, as I wasn't able to respond in time due to a vacation. Also, I am unable to access the Panda virus scan page. I have recently been having problems accessing ebay (somehow my browser settings don't let me log in) and, I have been unable to access anything through a javascript link (like your clickable smilies). Please help me, as I really don't know what to do.
In your debt
SparkTiger

Thanks a lot for re-opening the topic (again), I'm going to have more free time so hopefully I can devote more time to destroying my spyware. When I was trying to block popupsearches and others, I may have changed the wrong internet settings. I have been unable to use javascript links, and have been unable to access Ebay. My computer probably still has tons of spyware on it, so here's my latest hijackthis log (the Pandaware homepage is acting up, so I can't get a scan from there). Thanks and happy virus hunting!

Internet is acting up a little as far as javascript links (like clickable smilies). If you could refer me to one of your online forums to deal with this kind of thing, I would appreciate it. I have noticed no spyware, it doesn't mean there isn't any, but it means that I can access the internet and use my computer normally again. Thank you very much for all your help.

Hi SparkTiger

This will sort out your Java problem.

Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .
You can download Sun's newer JVM for Windows at

http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html.

http://www.java.com/...load/manual.jsp Windows (Offline Installation)

Post back and let me know.
