Hi Dan,
I uninstalled everything ya mentioned. Norton is still showing in the add/remove programs but I don't think its actually installed anymore, there is no size next to it, but I cant get it to disappear from the list. I restarted the computer, still couldn't connect to the internet. I installed the Guided Help thing, but it wouldn't run in regular mode, only safe mode. So I ran it in safe mode then restarted the computer to Regular mode and ran the Hijack. Here is the new startup list. Hey Dan...I really appreciate that your taking so much time to help me out! :)

~Kathy~

Don't thank me until we get this fixed :)

C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\YOP\yop.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe

These are the two programs that have me the most concerned, and which I feel are the most likely to be interfering with your connection. The first is the Yahoo Online Protection and the second is linked to Norton, I believe. These still appear to be running on your computer.

Can you please try the Norton Removal Tool and see if that resolves your issue.

As to the yop.exe, I'm not sure why it's even running in a clean boot state. Did you uninstall Yahoo Online Protection? I've never used YoP; is there any option to temporarily disable it? An alternative would be to kill the process using Task manager.

:) That's great to hear :) Have you reverted your computer back to a normal startup (i.e. no more clean boot)? If your desktop still loads slowly, it may be because you have too many applications starting up at startup. The best way to resolve this would be to either uninstall a few that you no longer need, or stop them from starting up at startup (many applications don't need to run at startup, instead you can simply execute them when you need them).

Either way, I'm glad to hear you have Internet back :)

Hiiiiii Dan! :) I know I'm seriously pushing my luck buuuuut, will ya help me get rid of stuff I don't need or want on my computer. I don't know what most of the things in startup even are and the faster my computer is the happier I am :). If you will continue to help me clean this mess of computer then should I get outta clean boot before we do anything else? There is so much I would like to learn about on my computer if ya have the patience, like what is a firewall and how do I backup things for starters. Dan your the BEST! Thanks so much for all you've done!

How could I say no when you ask so nicely? :)

So, the first thing to do would be to return your system back to a normal startup:
  • Select Start, and then click Run.
  • Type msconfig, and then click OK.
  • Click the General tab, click Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services, and then click OK.
When you are prompted, click Restart to restart the computer.
Once your computer boots up, can you please generate new copies of the Startup list and also one for the Uninstall list. We'll try to prune some programs from your computer, and then disable any apps that don't need to start up on startup..

Also, I'd suggest you take a peek at this thread, as it lists some good firewalls and steps to stay protected. Actually, just hold onto that link for now.. We don't want to install anything new until we get rid of some of the junk first :)

Yeaaa my very own Tech Guy! :)
I'm back in normal startup and here is the start-up list and the un-install list. I remembered how to do them without even going back to re-read previous posts!! Very Cool! Hey Dan.. if ya want to, I have a Yahoo Instant Messenger if ya want to use that to talk or we can continue in here.

It doesn't look like there's a ridiculous amount of programs starting up on startup, although there are quite a few non-essentials in there -- how's your computer running?

I think your biggest issue is the amount of programs you have installed :) Since I don't know what programs you use or don't use, your best bet is to goto Start --> Control Panel --> Add or remove programs. In here you'll see all of your programs; you should try to uninstall any programs that you don't use often, or no longer need, etc. You can uninstall a program by right-clicking on it and selecting Uninstall. If there are any programs you're unsure of, leave them for now and just post the name of the program here, and I'll let you know if it's vital or not.

I remembered how to do them without even going back to re-read previous posts!! Very Cool!

Very cool, indeed. :) Soon you won't even need me.

Hey Dan.. if ya want to, I have a Yahoo Instant Messenger if ya want to use that to talk or we can continue in here.

We like to keep things on the forum, so that future forum-goers may benefit :)
