Hi
I have a Toshiba Satellite P25-5263 running XP Home.
I have installed from scratch, but for some reason the dvd cannot be read, and gives the error
"the request could not be perfomed because of an I/O device error"

Any suggestions pls?
Thanks in advance
Gill

This is usually caused by defective media, a defective drive (CD drive or hard drive), a defective burn (if it's one you made yourself after slipstreaming a service pack for example) or an issue with the laptop itself, typically memory. An I/O error literally means "Input Output Error" which basically means "I can't read or write anything".

Thanks. Somewhere in a dim memory is a thought that the setting for the DVD is incorrect and it's seeing it as a CD. Just cannot remember where to change it.
