I downloaded Adware and tried to scan my system to remove this trojan spyware. After about 5 secounds of scanning with Adware a message appears that says

" The System will shut down in 35 seconds

caused by trojan-spy.html.smitfraud.c

shutdown initiated by NT Authority System

restart because the remote procedure call (rpc) service terminated unexpectedly"

It seems when it detects the scan happening it is protecting it self.The system restarts and will not let me perform a scan.

The trojan has changed my IE HomePage and loaded a blue screen saying that I had a fatal IE error and the computer will not operate in its normal mode. Other than that it seems to operate normally.

I am no expert or programmer but follow instructions well.

I'm giving you a lot of instructions at once here - after downloading all the files I've linked for you, probably best to print the instructions to save you logging back in repeatedly.

Go to Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs and remove the following programs if found:

Security IGuard
Virtual Maid
Search Maid

Exit Add or Remove Programs.

Do this so you can see hidden files and folders - click here to download xphidden.zip. Extract xphidden.reg from the zip file and save it to the desktop. When done, double click the xphidden.reg and when asked to merge say yes.

Click here to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit. Extract it from the zip file then double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.

Select the Delete on reboot option.

In the 'Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste the following, clicking the 'Delete File' button (red circle with a white X) after pasting:

C:\wp.exe

It will prompt you to reboot, press the NO button. Instead, copy and paste the following and click the 'Delete File' button again:

C:\wp.bmp

When it prompts you to reboot this time, press the NO button again and repeat the process on all these files until the last one has been entered then press the YES button:

If you recieve an error message "PendingRenameOperation...." and your computer doesn't restart, please restart it manually.

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the following and delete if found (please do NOT try to find them by "search" because they will not show up that way):

C:\Program Files\Search Maid
C:\Program Files\Virtual Maid
C:\Windows\System32\Log Files
C:\Program Files\Security IGuard

Next, click here to download smitfraud.reg and save it to the desktop. When done, double click the smitfraud.reg and click yes when asked to add to the registry.

Reboot your computer again.

Click here to download the Hoster. Extract it from the zip file into a folder and doubleclick on hoster.exe. Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit the program.

Click here and download DelDomains.inf to your Desktop. Right-click on it and select 'Install'.

Click here to download System Security Suite. Extract it from the zip file into a folder and doubleclick on sss.exe. Check the boxes under the 'Items to Clear' tab and click 'Clear Selected Items'. You will be prompted to reboot, do so.

Nearly there. HijackThis is being run from a temporary folder; this means that any backups it creates as a result of fixes made with it will be lost. Please create a new folder for it and place the program into that new folder.

Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

OK, we don't normally recommend running two antivirus programs together. The program I am going to tell you to install has been successful removing this particular variant in the past.

Could you disable Norton for now and go here to download the free version of Grisoft's AVG AntiVirus program.

Install the program, check for updates and scan your system allowing it to remove whatever it finds.

Open the Killbox. In the 'Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste the following, clicking the 'Delete File' button (red circle with a white X) after pasting:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\winlogin.exe

It will prompt you to reboot, press the NO button. Instead, copy and paste the following and click the 'Delete File' button again:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\W8C6S4~1.DLL

[/b]It will prompt you to reboot, press the NO button again and repeat for the following:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\4zypp3r1fuy.dll

When it prompts you to reboot this time, press the YES button.

With only HijackThis running, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

I disabled Norton and downloaded AVG Antivirus. It immediatly popped up a window say "Virus Alert " before I even began to scan the system. My options were to continue, heal, delete, move. I at first was deleting them. then i started healing them. Which should I be doing?

I have not finished there seems to be so many files infected. I bet Ideleted 10 and healed another 40 or so before I had to quit. I re booted and opemed AVG to do a system scan and immediatly the warning window popped up again. do I contiune to delete or heal from this pop up window?

I did the scan with AVG and it found over 4000 infected file. When i rebooted it is still giving me more Virus warnings. should I scan again. The latest log is below.

Check for Updates and scan again. Also Norton is still running - that may cause conflicts - disable it completely. If it is as old as it appears and you don't intend to renew your licence then uninstall it. Antivirus programs that are not kept up to date are worthless as you can see.

Is the virus infection the same in all those files? Have a look in the vault, it will tell you.

Click here to download eScan's mwav application. Double-click it to run it, select all local drives, scan all files, press 'scan' and when it is completed, anything found will be displayed in the lower pane. Highlight it, CTRL C and paste it in your next reply.

it is infecting Windows\system\32\

I have it set to automatically scan early every morning. This morning it scanned again and it found over 25000 infected files. I am having my wife run it several times today.

What else do you suggest

I have never heard of anyone with so many infected files before. I need to see that other scan I asked for. Before you do it do this:

1. Right-click My Computer>Click Properties>Click the System Restore tab>Check the box next to 'Turn off System Restore on all drives'>Click Apply>Click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Repeat the process but this time remove the check from the box.

as instructed I am still scanning with the mwav application. It has been at it about 3 hours and has found about 20 viruses and 43 errors. out of 65000 files

I was looking throuh the files and discoved in a file "local settings\application data\temp\bases x"
file names like avp.klb, avp.set, daily.avc, daily-x.avc, gen001.avc, kernal.avc,
malw002.avc, troj006.avc, unp006.avc, virus001.avc

in the download file i see similair file names but also worm001.avc, worm999.avc,
x-files.avc
I can send you a screen shot of the files if you wish.

are these suppose to be there?
as soon as the scan is done i will send it to you. I am going to bed I will check the scan in the morning and send it to you.
