I've been trying to install the current Java (Java Virtual Machine, JRE) from the page www.java.com/en/download (Free Java Download). But it won't install.

The download completes and saves jxpiinstall-6u11-fcs-bin-b90-windows-i586-25_nov_2008.exe.
When I run that exe I get the "Downloading Java Installer" window. That window completes without errors, and then closes. But then no java installation is actually started.

I had an old version of java but I removed it and the same problem occurs.
