AoE 2; Can not connect?

I want to play Age of Empires with my brother, but for some reason when I make a game, he can see the game on the list, however when he wants to join it will not work (I tried on both "Internet TCP/IP Connection For DirectPlay" and "Local (LAN) TCP/IP Connection") but he sits at connecting (please wait 15 sec or hit escape) but it says can not connect...I dont know if it has anything to do with the CDs becuase I have CD2.0a and he has CD2.0 ..so not sure if thats why..if anyone knows how to fix this NOTE- I am pc dumb...I looked up what other people said..I dont understand what DMZing the router is or anything..if you can help, please explain what I have to do..thank you A LOT!
