OK, I have been fighting with a GATEWAY 200ARC NOTEBOOK for about 3 weeks. I bought it and the hard drive crashed, so, like any fairly computer tinkerer, I reinstalled Windows XP Home. following such, I went to the gateway support and downloaded and installed all of the drivers that were SUPPOSED to go to my serial number. All went well until first, I realized that the drivers for my wireless adapter were wrong, so, I opened her up, and got the serial and model and what have you, and went searching off the Gateway site, found the proper drivers, and viola!! i have wireless, like 3 blocks away!! LOL that was great, but now, no matter what I do, from repeatedly downloading drivers from gateway, to googling, I cant get the sound to work. Windows Media Player tells me I have no sound device,(which it does as it worked before the crash) and the device manager tells me I have no drivers for the Multimedia Audio Controller, but when I try to reinstall it, update drivers, roll back drivers, ANYTHING it JUST DONT WORK!! I read the read me file attached to my zip file for the SUPPOSEDLY original drivers, and followed them TO THE "T", to no avail. My eyes are spinning, and the steam it blowing out of my ears cartoon style!!! PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Download, and install Everest: http://www.majorgeek...wnload4181.html
Open it, click Computer, then Summary.
In upper menu, go Report>Quick Report-Summary
Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.
Don't include anything under the line Debug - PCI

First, download, and install chipset driver: http://www.intel.com...b/CS-009239.htm (Intel 852GM Chipset).
Then download, and install this audio driver: http://members.drive...driverid=205636 (uninstall current driver, first; if any is listed)

Hi,
I have the same problem, but i've just resolved :)
Try to install first sp30791.exe (TITLE: ATI M9 M10 RC300M VGA Driver for 2K XP), then uninstall the old sound driver ( i had Realtek Ac97 "wdm_a358.exe" but my mic and Audio Advanced control was not working). go to CPanel>Add rem prog>Realtek ac97 and uninstall ( i could do that only in Safe Mode).
Install sp28552.exe (TITLE: ADI 1981B Audio Driver for Win2K XP). For me it works
I couldn't install sp28552.exe until I've installed sp30791.exe .
Apologize for my bad English but i hope you understand

Please start your own topic
Although your issue may seem similar there can be other factors that may need to be resolved.
By bumping on someone's topic it makes it confusing for the tech to understand who they are helping. This can in turn cause the wrong support to be given and can cause instability or worse to happen to your system.
Thank you for your cooperation.
