I would like to see a limit placed on the size of images used in a signature or added at bottom of a post. The Avatars are limited as well as they should be. Now let's do the same for other images used in this forum.

Anyone thought about the people still on dial-up (not me, not me!) and the time it takes to load these images? Some images look like pure advertising.

My opinion...for what it's worth. (2 cents? More ? Not less, surely?)

Waiting to see if this is going to be a feature of the next forum software update. If not, I will install a modification to limit sig size.

Dial-up users are still about 50% of our visitors. :tazz:

Just been checking some of these images that are way outside the Terms of Use guidelines for this forum :

• The posting of images is allowed on the support forums. But we insist on you keeping all images in your posts including the signature down to below 8Kb. This is so that no one has any problems with any of the pictures in peoples posts not showing up. If it is necessary for you to post an image as a graphical means of displaying a problem you may be experiencing then please keep the image below 15Kb.

Found one that is 127.51 KB in size!!! Not going to post URL, but I'm sure you know who you are with the large blue rotating image. :tazz:

Can't we get these out of the signatures and/or attachments and tighten up on the use of images? Need to do this on our own before Admin gets the software to force a limit as set forth in the Terms of Use.

I agree that some of the images being introduced are becoming quite large in size, and whilst I agree with you Major Payne, there is an option for people on a slower connection.

Go to My Controls and select Board Settings

Change the following items to No

Do you wish to view members signatures when reading topics?
Do you wish to view images in posts, such as smilies and posted images?

I realise that this takes away some of the bells and whistles from the board for those on a slower connection, but it is a work around until something more permanant can be done.

I am not on a slow connection. I use broadband. I expect all who post in any forum, not just this one, to follow the rules. Not make someone have to eliminate the "bells and whistles" of a forum to accommodate others who don't want to read and follow the guidelines posted for EVERYONE!

8 KB is the limit for signatures and non-essential graphics. 15 KB ONLY for those images that are absolutely required to present your problem or used to reply to a problem only as a solution to that problem. 127.51 KB is a bit much don't you think? Almost nine times the allowed limit!

I didn't mean to suggest that you were on a slow connection or that you should change the board settings illustrated in my last post. I was attempting to show a simple workaround for those who do have a slow connection. I realise that the ultimate solution would be to enforce the graphic size limits but that is controlled by persons with a higher statute than me. Still, I agree with your point.

Hi there,

If you send me a PM with the link to the user account of a user who has too big of a signature, I will take care of it :tazz:

I could do that, but if you would just check the signature images of the Geek Staff, you'll run across many that are exceeding the 8 KB limit. The individual that had the 127.51 KB rotating graphic signature was also a staff member if I recall correctly.

I think you will have a hard time keeping these down until Admin comes up with the software that will automatically limit image sizes to what ever he wants to set.

I just thought that since the guidlines for posting were made they should be obeyed by all. It's no big deal for me, just that some of them take up so much of the posting space that you have to scroll well past them to get to next reply to the post. It's why I have cut down the amount of time I spend replying to posts in this forum. The bigger the signature the fewer the posts per page and I hate scrolling past a bunch of large signatures to read posts.

It's my problem and I guess I'll have to deal with it in my own way.
