Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some Firewall options, preferably freeware, free, open source etc

I was using Kerio, that last version that was made free to download.. but it seems to have caused a lot of instability. I've removed it and am using Windows Firewall, but I want more control, and to be able to block outgoing traffic if I so choose.

I run Windows XP Home SP3, I use Steam a lot for games, and I use torrents occasionally.

Any advice from the pro's?

Thank you in advance.

Hi MatCon5

Personnally I use Comodo Firewall Pro. and is quite happy with it.
Another good choice could be Online Armor.

Those two are in my view the best free firewalls one can get hands on.

I play CS Source via Steam, and haven't had any problems with Comodo. But
no two PC's are alike, so can't say for certain that you will experience no problems.

Do note that Comodo is a very complex firewall, and its very "loud" the first 1-2 weeks
of usage, until it have learned your programs and habits so to speak. But once over that
little hurdle (Patience is the name of game) its mostly quiet.

Hello Abydos, thanks for the reply.

I've noticed that the download for Comodo firewall is bundled with Antivirus, is there an option to not install the antivirus? I use Nod32 already, I just need a firewall.
I'll download both and give them a try.

Thanks again

Hi

The download here, should be without AV.

http://www.filehippo...ownload_comodo/

Altho, I think, without being certain, that you can choose not to install the Av
with the one from the Comodo site.

Yes, there is an option to UN-check AV during installation.

I have a question for you Abydos.

I have Comodo firewall installed.. after closing utorrent Comodo started logging massive amounts of connections to my system (Windows Operating System is the application) Connections trying to connect to me almost every 2 to 4 seconds. I've read around and can't seem to find out how to solve this issue.

Would you happen to know anything about this?

Cheers
