HELP! Portable Hard Drive is down...

My WD 160GB is not showing up when I plug it in or it takes forever to make the3 sound that it was plugged in. It worked fine last night. I can find it in saftly remove harware but when I click in my computer it says drive J when it use to say WD Passport. It keeps telling me the drive is not formatted would you like to format it now? I did come up one time tonight and it said the drive would work better on a usb2.0 which all ports on my machine are?? If I go into the bios I can see the drive. I have all my music and alot of important files on there what can I do??
