XP Pro, 1.5 Mhz P4, 256 mb PC 800 RDRAM

System takes up to an hour to boot - monitor light is amber for that time and weird clicking noises seem to be coming from the MB (removed all cards including the graphics card and the clicking was still there). Once the clicking sounds stop (an hour later) boots normally.
This all started several weeks ago at the time that this error would come up on boot: "Error loading E6F1873B.DLL". I've gotten rid of this problem by running AdAware and SpySweeper several times but still won't boot normally.
Could this be bad RAM?
Thanks.
