Windows XP login immediate logoff

I continue to have the same problem as many others have posted about. I have tried multiple solutions to no avail. I have booted from the XP CD and perfromed the recovery feature (no success), XP CD reinstall (no success), followed admin's 3 step process of typing in copy/delete files (completed step one, when restart took place-same login/logoff problems. WHAT DO I DO NOW???????????? I am typing this from a school laptop (not mine)!!
