My Outlook Express won't work with my Avast!

I need help with getting my Outlook Express to work with Avast. When I open my E-mail it tries to connect and then says failed due to Avast. I have tried all the help topics for Avast and nothing worked. Avast is a good program and cured my virus I had, so I don't want to get rid of it. But I desperately need in my E-mail.
