NTLDR IS MISSING, WINDOWS RECOVERY NOT WORKING

My mom is having major trouble with her computer. She has windows xp. She gets the error NTLDR is missing. Now we have all the recovery cd's and are able to start the recovery. However when it gets to the last cd it stays stuck on like 50 percent or 78 percent for hours and we get alot of errors about a problem in the extracting process with fonts and things like that.....I don't know what to do. We've tried this process over and over with the same result. I can't even get on command prompt to try to see if I could do the check disk. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thank you for your time.
