Hello, I was here about a year ago with some computer problems and the staff did a wonderful job helping me clean up my computer. However, my brother has been downloading from Limewire and I believe we have multiple viruses. I could be mistaken though. Here is my hijack log.........I appreciate the help.

Download CWShredder http://www.greyknigh.../CWShredder.exe

Right click a blank part of your desktop & select New->Folder. Call it SPFix. Go to http://www.derbilk.de/404.html and download SpSeHjfix. Get the one that's specified for your Operating System. So if you have Windows 98, get the one that's listed for Windows 98.

Disconnect from the net and close all programs. Run SpSeHjfix and click on 'Start Disinfection'. When it's finished it will reboot your machine to finish the cleaning process. The tool creates a log of the fix which will appear in the folder.

If it doesn't find any of the SE files or any hidden reinstallers it will say system clean and not go on to next stage.

Now run the CWShredder and hit the Fix button.

Reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log and the log that was created by SpSeHjfix.

I followed your instructions, but I didn't get a log file when I ran SpSeHjFix. I ran CWShredder like you said and it said that it removed something. Here's my next Hijack log. Thanks for your help.

OK, for this fix, make sure you go into Safe Mode to do the fixes. Also check to see that Spybot's TeaTimer is not running, otherwise it will interfere with this fix.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key until menu shows up. In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers.

Run CWShredder again.

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

WildTangent - This is an online gaming package that is installed by a number of third party applications and even OEMs, ISPs and AIM. The games aspect of this is really rather cool. The being installed without you asking for it isn't cool at all. They collect information about you and your usage. We recommend uninstalling it.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

OK, Spybot's TeaTimer is preventing us from fixing this. Before you do the fixes below, make sure that TeaTimer is closed/disabled first. It shouldn't be on in Safe Mode, but double check to make sure.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key until menu shows up. In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Again, make sure that TeaTimer is not running now.

Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Was TeaTimer closed before doing the fix? OK, let's do this instead.

I want you to uninstall Spybot now. Yes, uninstall it. Restart and make sure that all the Spybot folders are deleted. Now try doing the fix:

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

When I did the steps you told me in safe mode I checked which processes were running in Windows Task Manager and it didn't have TeaTimer listed so I assumed it was not running. Anyway, I uninstalled Spybot like you said and here is my new logfile....again, thank you very much for your help. The computer is already performing much better.

You may reinstall Spybot back now.

Your log is clean.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.
