I get on forums that don't allow attachments. From the people on these forums you use something like Photobucket and get a link that you can add to your message and they can click it on and see what you can't attach.

What I'm trying to do is scan a picture or document, put it on Photobucket and get a link that I can send to the forum

I know it's simple, but if you've never done it, it becomes daunting. I'll take any help I can get. :)

Once you have your image scanned and saved. Upload it to your PhotoBucket account using their file uploader after you login. Once there, go to the image uploaded, if not already showing in the window. Make sure you do not have your account set to Private. You can set certain albums to Public. When you mouseover the image, it will give you link options. You want the links that refer to forums as most forums do not allow use of HTML tags: Example -
[img]http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t184/User_Name/Album_Name/image_name.gif[/img]
If you want the image to show and have a clickable link to it on PhotoBucket:
[img=http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t184/User_Name/Album_Name/image_name.gif]http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t184/User_Name/Album_Name/image_name.gif[/img]

Use the Direct link to your image(s) when doing this as given by PhotoBucket. For a simple text link:
[img=http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t184/User_Name/Album_Name/image_name.gif]Text Link Description[/img]
