I'm having real issues removing Nail.exe completely from my system. Each time I reboot Symantec finds and tries to quarantine it. If someone could help it would be much appreicated. I have followed the instructions you guys have posted, but nothing removes it completely. Below is my HijackThis log file...

Disable SpywareGuard:

Right click the running icon of Spywareguard, it will open the program.
Then go to Menu, file, exit.
Then confirm the program is closed.
Reverse the process when you’ve carried out the advise.

Also for the duration of the advise disable EwidoGuard.

You have Spybot S&D's helper running which is good, but we need you to disable it for the remainder of the fix as it will interfere with the registry changes being made.
Open Spybot S&D in advanced mode, click Tools > Resident, and remove the check from "Resident Tea-Timer". Reboot after unchecking the entry.

Make sure these programs stay off until we are done.

Please run Notepad and copy the following text into a new file:

@ECHO OFF
cd\windows
Nail.exe /FULLREMOVE
attrib -s -r -h nail.exe
del nail.exe
exit

Save the file to the desktop as remove.bat and make sure the "Save as type" field says "All files".

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on remove.bat. A window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Open HijackThis
Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Then close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Restart your computer.

Rerun Ewido Scanner. Then, let it do a full run, and copy the log. Past it to a blank Notepad file and save it to post here.
Than let it rerun. Save that log too.

Then go to Menu, file, exit.
Then confirm the program is closed.
Reverse the process when you’ve carried out the advise.

Past this line in the full path of file to delete:

choose replace on reboot
put a check to 'use dummy'
Then press the red button with the white X.

We need to disable Ewido Guard and Spyware guard. It will prevent this system from getting clean.


Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot the computer.
Post back with a fresh log using HijackThis.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

• Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

• Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
  
  
• Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

• Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.
