I have a blue screen with error code 0x00000024. I read the how to check for problems, but I am unable to do anything to be able to run the chkdsk scan. How do I get to the command prompt or onto windows to run these checks?

I tried to reboot with my CD to repair windows XP media center. I have a screen that shows the existing partitions and unpartitioned space

-: partition 1[FAT]
C: Partition2 [unknown]
J: partition3 [FAT32]

it will not allow me to set up XP on either -: or J:, and when I choose C:, it wants to make a separate partition. I have no selection to repair XP and not lose my data.
