Go to the Control Panel -> Programs and Features. Attempt to remove AVAST. You will be given three options. One of it will be Repair. Take that option and repair AVAST.

All i got was "Product updated" after i did that, no ask for reboot, or anything, and security center still doesnt detect it

When you installed the Comodo firewall, I assume you included the antivirus it has - did you uninstall Avast? Even if it says it's not detected, you don't want 2 antivirus programs on your PC.

No, i did not install the antivirus, it's still new, last time i tried their antivirus it disabled my wireless saying it needed to send it to comodo, and i still like avast, even though it isnt working properly with security center, it still offers me extremely good protection combined with COMODO firewall.

There are two ways that entries can be put in the repository.
1. At run time.
2. At install.

As I said earlier, I wasn't familiar with Avast.

The steps you took above, prove that it is being put in at install time.

Do this:

Uninstall Comodo
Uninstall Avast

Click start, Right click Command prompt, click run as administrator

In the Black window
Type: net stop winmgmt

(You'll get a message that says two other services also need to be stopped)

Type Y, then hit enter

(The Services will stop)

Type: cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem

Type: ren repository repository_oldone

Reboot your machine.

Install Avast.

The Sequence of events is what has caused the problem:

1. McAfee was installed.
2. Uninstall didn't remove it completely.
3. Avast was Installed.
4. Avast couldn't put an entry in the repository for the Antivirus portion, there was already one there. (McAfee)
Avast could put one in the Malware section.
5. The Error message Antivirus is out of date is Avast. All Antivrus definitions are out of date, from the time the program was written. Avast antivirus was present, and running it just didn't show up due to the above.

You also said you ran McAfee's removal tool.
I suspect this took out the entry, for Mcafee.
Thus leaving the Blank (appeared Avast antivirus wasn't running) spot.

The only thing that is puzzling, is what you saw after McAffee suport had you delete the repository.

You should have seen, that no antivirus or Malware was running.

The Exact Sequence, is the key.

If AVAST was properly installed, those options would have been available. Remove and reinstall AVAST.
