:tazz: me please!?! Nail.exe, ABetterInternet, VX2 variant (and all other names it goes by) is spyware from [bleep] and I have tried every solution that I come across to get rid of it but it keeps coming back. I have tried to delete registry keys and I get an error message saying there was an error deleting the key and that it cannot be deleted. Along with Ad-Aware I have Spybot S&D, Stinger, HijackThis, SpywareBlaster, Spy Sweeper, Ewido, and SpyBot Resident and none have helped ;) Thank you in advance if you can help me with this problem...if not then I thank you for your time and for having a great forum as this!! ;)

If your system is running a program which changes the hosts file or you have added listings to the hosts file, then there is no need to check further. Otherwise, download the "Host file viewer" by Option^Explicit. It is a 65K program which will allow you to find/view/open/read/edit/restore to default settings your hosts file. Instructions are on the display screen of the program. Select the option to restore to default settings.

When restored, rescan with Ad-aware's "Full system scan", and post a fresh scanlog.

Well I have done some reboots and scans in the last 2 days and the Nail.exe/ABetterInternet does not show up on Ad-Aware, SpyBot S&D, Ewido, HijackThis, Stinger or NortonAV but it does show up on Spy Sweeper...could this be because of an archive log in one of the programs?? Btw, the reason I have done so many scans over the last couple days is that although the spyware is not showing up I am still having the same problems such as PC bogging down or completely freezing up. I have cleaned all temp files and the disk drive. Any other suggestions? Thanks ~amanda~

Hi Amanda,

I'll take over now you have been refered here to malware forum.

Firstly you need to create a nerw folder on your C drive (for example c\hjt). Install HJT into that folder and run it from there. That way it can create backups if required.

I would like you to carry out the following free on-line virus scan and follow their instructions on removal of anything that it may find.

Panda Active Scan

Download the following, install it but do not run it.

Cleanup

Download a free 14 day trial of Ewido.

Ewido
Install it and follow the instructions to update it, but do not run it yet.

Set up your PC to show hidden files (click link below if you do not know how.)

Show hidden files

Now boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key whilst your PC starts up. Select SAFE MODE.

Rescan with HJT and check the followiing entries if present.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.r...ip/RdxIE601.cab
O16 - DPF: {D68217F4-1DF9-45C1-BFA6-61DBD5464527} -

Ensure no windows open except HJT asnd click FIX CHECKED.

Next run Cleanup to clear out temp files, junk etc.

Now run Ewido. double click on the new icon for the program. You can't miss it, it's a big yellow E. click on the Scanner button, Select drives if you have more than one and then start.

grab a cup of coffee, sandwiches, book and sleeping bag as this will take some time. Once the first problem is detected ensure you tick the box for all (bottom left) and allow it to continue.

At the end of the scan, it may ask if you would like to delete anything found in archive or zipped files, OK that request, then click on save report. SAVE to the default location, it will then generate a text file. Copy that to post in this thread.

Carry out another HJT scan and post the log back here, so we can sort out any remnants

Hi Amanda,

You didn't install HJT into it's own folder and run it from there.

However you now only have 1 more scan to do with HJT.

Rescan PC with HJT, check the entries below.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {BDF3E430-B101-42AD-A544-FADC6B084872} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} -
O16 - DPF: {D68217F4-1DF9-45C1-BFA6-61DBD5464527} -

Ensure no windows open and click fix checked

Rescan with HJT and post the log back

Hi Amanda,

Have you or your System administrator set up policy restrictions and control panel restrictions in Internet explorer or set them up in Spybot S&D?

Hi amanda,

At present there are some restrictions set up on your PC. Is this your own PC or a works PC?
If it is your own PC, have you set up any restrictions or done so in Spybot Search & Destroy program?
